Binscarth

The Village of Binscarth, a small community of 425 people, is located along the Yellowhead Highway, approximately 12 km from the Saskatchewan border.  Community spirit and pride of place are apparent in everything undertaken by local residents.   An avid participant in Communities in Bloom, the Village has won both provincial and national awards. In addition, Binscarth received the 1999 honor of being declared by Canadian Living magazine as the “Best Place in Canada to Raise a Family”!  

Just 2 km south of the Village, numerous visitors and residents alike enjoy the scenic Binscarth Park and Pool, boasting the largest outdoor heated swimming pool along the Yellowhead Highway for public swimming and provides swimming lessons in July.  In addition, the park provides 42 serviced camp sites, an interesting hiking trail, modern concession and washrooms, horseshoe pits, mini golf and beach volleyball.

Be sure to join local residents in their annual Canada Day celebrations that include a June 30th social followed by a July 1st pancake breakfast, parade, games for young and old, food, music and fun, all topped off with a spectacular fireworks display.

Economic Development
Settled at the turn of the 20th century the communities long standing agricultural roots are evidenced by the two large modern grain terminals located on the north and south side of town.  The community is surrounding by grain and livestock farms.  Nearby Potash mining in Saskatchewan also provides work opportunities for local residents.  

Business services located in town include a Credit Union, Post Office, 2 restaurants, gas station, grocery & coffee shop and hair salon.  The Municipality of Russell Binscarth, that encompasses the Town and surrounding area are aggressively promoting local economic development initiatives through their community development office.

Education
Binscarth provides excellent educational facilities, including daycare, nursery school, and K to 8 secondary school facilities.

Recreation
In addition to the Binscarth Park & Pool the village has a nine hole golf course, cross-country ski & snow-shoe trail, large museum, skating and curling rinks, library, ball diamonds, drop in centre, large community centre & Vagabond Theatre company that provide residents of all ages with meaningful recreation activities.  Local service clubs, lodges and other organized committees within the village provide volunteer opportunities for many local residents.

As celebrated in 1999 by Canadian Living Magazine, Binscarth provides an excellent environment for raising a family.  A quiet friendly town with a low crime rate, a relatively low cost of living and high quality of life that includes recreational, educational, and cultural facilities.
